  • Making the Galaxy Smaller: Inside Kenner’s Star Wars Micro Collection, Part 2

    Tim Veekhoven
    23 Jul 2014 | 9:00 am
The Micro Collection was a smaller diecast series of toys released in the Summer of 1982 by Kenner. Despite their huge success with the 3” ¾ line, Kenner still wanted to expand their horizons with Star Wars. The Micro Collection line consisted of several playsets that came multiple diecast figures about 1” ¼ tall. Although the line was heavily promoted and Kenner truly believed in its potential, the line proved to be a failure and didn’t sell as well as expected. In the first part of this blog series, I discussed the worlds of the Death Star and Hoth. Now we’ll have a look…

Tuesday night, July 22nd Location: Lucasfilm Pavilion, #2913 San Diego Comic-Con International It’s Tuesday night in San Diego, and the creatures in the Lucasfilm pavilion are definitely stirring. I have been here since Sunday morning, and while Sunday and Monday are solid, steady work days, Tuesday is when the real fun begins. • New X-wing model teased in connection to Force for Change

    VictoryClassWoman
    21 Jul 2014 | 4:02 pm
Yes! One of my favorite models of starship ever makes an appearance in this new video about Force for Change, the charity campaign for UNICEF. Yes, it looks like a Z-95 that I remember from the old video games (and other parts of the Expanded Universe), but as Variety showed (in a good overview) through a link to an official tweet, it’s an “Episode VII X-wing.” It does look a bit unusual; there is one engine on each side instead of two, and the wings seem to fold differently. Just another example of change being inevitable, but it still has the classic trilogy feel to it,…
  • More actors for Episode VII

    VictoryClassWoman
    7 Jul 2014 | 11:46 am
The Official Site has announced the addition of American stage and screen actress Crystal Clarke and British actor and freerunner/traceur Pip Andersen to Episode VII. Commentary on other news articles on this subject expressed worries that the cast was getting too big, but I think it’s likely that actors like these two will only have brief appearances, hopefully showing their talent and athleticism to the fullest (I can easily imagine some battle scene where we might see Andersen parkouring around in the background, for example). In any case I’m happy to see the tradition of…

The L.A. Times has announced that Rian Johnson will write and direct Episode VIII (the second movie of the sequel trilogy and eighth overall). Planning ahead, are we? Usually I like to wait for an official announcement, but after a few days of reading about him I thought it was intriguing enough to post. Johnson is the writer/director of several independent movies, including futuristic crime film Looper (link contains spoilers), and some episodes of Breaking Bad.

Here is a short behind-the-scenes trailer linked to by the Official Site: It’s also posted by GameSpot here with some comments It shows that, at the very least, the planets Hoth and Endor from the Original Trilogy will be in the game, but it does not show what combat will be like, if there will be…

Mara Jade was instantly a fan favorite character. When she first graced the pages of the Star Wars expanded universe in Timothy Zahn's 1991 book Heir to the Empire she was embraced by Star Wars fans. It wasn't long before the figure also appeared in video games, action figures, the Return of the Jedi Radio Drama and more. But now with the Star Wars Expanded Universe being rebranded "Legends" Mara Jade's canonical status is uncertain and fans who've followed the character for over twenty years cannot look forward to new Mara Jade adventures. However fans can own a statue of Mara Jade, perhaps…

Star Wars collectors have braved the Hasbro booth year after year to get the latest, hottest exclusive toys. While the lines have been long and brutal and the toys expensive it was, at least for the past several years, the only line for exclusive, hard-to-get Star Wars toys. Until 2014. Now, as Disney's corporate partnerships bring new Star Wars toys around the globe, Hasbro toy competitor Mattel has a licence for Hot Wheels from a Galaxy Far, Far Away! The line has been previewed and the first opportunity to get an exclusive Darth Vader car is at SDCC this summer! On this week's Star Wars…

  • A New Hope for Star Wars Vehicle Collectors

    6 Jul 2014 | 5:00 am
Last month, we received word that Hot Wheels and Star Wars would soon be joining forces to release an entirely new range of vehicles. One line will include themed "character cars" (the first of which - Darth Vader - can be seen here). The second - and perhaps more interesting - line, will contain a series of distinct miniature ships with display stands. As far as I'm concerned, this is fantastic news. While the characters of Star Wars are incredibly important, the vehicles of the saga have a special place in the hearts of fans and collectors alike. In the mid- to late-90s there were…
  • Tem Strikes Back

Temuera Morrison to return to the Star Wars Universe? Stuff.co.nz is reporting as much, referring to the first of the standalone/spinoff films that will interspersed between the Sequel Trilogy films. This information is not confirmed - in fact if you dig a little deeper, the source is merely a few additions to IMDB - but it is in the context of other believable information, making it a very interesting potential development. Discuss this topic in the SWNZ Message Boards. Related article: Temuera Morrison as Jango Fett (and Clones)
  • Star Wars Apparel Options for NZ Fans

    30 Jun 2014 | 5:00 am
Many of us want to express our love for Star Wars with what we wear, whether it's your favourite character on a t-shirt, or a subtle tie at the office. Unfortunately, finding Star Wars t-shirts and apparel in local stores here in New Zealand can be a rare occurrence, and often the finds are in the children's clothing sections only. It is a lot easier these days to seek what you want on-line, with several major companies now shipping to New Zealand. There's variety to cover a huge array of favourite characters, and many companies are branching out from standard t-shirts to offer other apparel…
  • A Changing Universe

    27 Jun 2014 | 5:00 am
If you're a fan of the saga, you've no doubt been asked the same question many times before: "Why do you like Star Wars so much?" It's a hard question, and it's harder still to give an answer that does justice to the deep and abiding love that many of us have for the franchise. Sure, Star Wars contains some of the most well-made films in cinema history. There's a fantastic plot, relatable characters, spectacular effects, and a magical quality that catches the imaginations of young and old alike. But for me, it's always been about more than the films. The most ambitious thing that…

The Star Wars Insider magazine, currently published by Titan Magazines, has been a fan favourite for decades now, but in this age has to work hard to remain relevant and competitive with online news sources. With Rebels and Episode VII on the horizon, it seems to be achieving that, containing a bountiful variety of exclusive new and archive content. Included in the publication schedule are short stories, which are particularly interesting given the recent changes to the official position on the Expanded Universe and creation of the Lucasfilm Story Group - issues 149 & 150 feature…

I grew up on original Star Wars trilogy. I was maybe 7-8 years old, when I got my first Star Wars poster. I remember how hard it was to get. Actually, in mid-80′s almost everything was hard to get in Poland (yep, that’s where I live). My grandfather had to ask my aunt to ask her daughter (would be my cousin I guess) to rip it from her room’s wall. He just couldn’t stand me begging him to do it over and over again. Finally she agreed and victory was mine Today, in majority thanks to the internet, you can get anything you want without leaving your home. And if you are…
