  • Episode 419: Locked Down with Joe Schreiber

    Venganza Media Inc.
    10 Mar 2014 | 1:01 am
Few first time Star Wars novelists get the promotional push that Joe Schreiber received in 2009 for Deathtroopers. The first unabashed horror story set in the Star Wars universe the combination of zombies and the galaxy far, far away inspired cosplay even before the book hit shelves. While somewhat controversial for its more R rated gore and violence, the book became a fan favorite and just one year later the sequel Red Harvest was released. Now after a four year absence from Star Wars fiction Schreiber is back in bookstores with the new novel Darth Maul: Lockdown. This prequel era tale…

  • Flash Gordon Movie Rights Secured by Fox

    23 Apr 2014 | 9:30 am
In what has to be one of the most ironic moves in cinema history 20th Century Fox - the company who greenlit Star Wars because George Lucas couldn't secure the rights to Flash Gordon back in the mid 70's - have now secured the rights to Flash Gordon. Word of Fox’s Flash Gordon grab comes courtesy of Heat Vision. There’s currently no news as to which direction the reboot will go, or what exactly the tone might be. One thing’s for certain, there’s plenty of source material to explore and mine for an obvious film franchise. Most of Gordon & Co.’s travels take them across the planet…

There are now less than 365 days until the next Star Wars Celebration convention in Anaheim, California - making this a good time to take a look at the event from the perspective of an international traveler/attendee... • Movies that maketh the man

    Amelia Theodorakis
    23 Apr 2014 | 12:23 am
The kids’ movie industry is largely dominated by male characters being heroic, exercising power and dominance, with ‘getting the girl’ as the ultimate prize. Colin Stokes talks about how the movie industry affects boys’ perceptions of manhood, and their rights to women’s bodies, as well as the impact on women. In this Tedtalk Stokes talks directly to other fathers about the kinds of movies they should be watching with their children, and what they can do to help their children challenge the patriarchy. “I gotta wonder, is girl power going to protect them…

Recently I got into a discussion online and of course it dealt with politics. What did the article have to deal with? It had to deal with whether or not President Obama was born in this country. Even though I am against his policies, I am tired about hearing this issue discussed. I commented on the article basically saying no matter what happens, whatever the truth it will be found out eventually. I never said I believed in one side or the other. There are bigger issues to focus on, like the economy and our national security. Well I got some surprising reactions from people on facebook who…
  • Book Review: EarthFall by Mark Walden

Book: Earthfall Author: Mark walden Plot: The earth as we know has come to an end and is now taken over by an alien mothership leaving  only few of the children left to survive and win against the invasion of their land. Rating: 3/5 Review Earth indeed did fall for me after reading it I start reading the book and think to myself that the book seems too easy and simple to read but then again seemed interesting enough to hang on to couple of more chapters but somehow I felt weird and found out that the book is actually a kid’s book… and I thought here comes one book which is equivalent to…

I’m Laura Linney, your host for a new season of Masterpiece Classics. Except I’m not really Laura Linney. But don’t change the channel just because I’m not. I felt the post warranted an authoritative air. The real Laura Linney If you’ve read this blog for any length of time (five seconds will do it), you’ll discern that I’m a fantasy fan. I read fantasy. I write fantasy. I read and appreciate other genres and have written other types of fiction. Nonfiction too. But I gravitate to fantasy like a moth gravitates to a light fixture. I’ve written about my need for fairy tales, now…

I have some awesome models of the Millennium Falcon and some incredible art, but one of the best things about focus collecting are the weird and wonderful items that you find along the way. Take this Millennium Falcon drum by Native American artist Dallin Maybee (loosely translated as “Thunder Sound Comes Down”) is seen on Uncle Paulie’s World website. Dallin says that the shape of the Falcon easily lends itself to being immortalized as a drum. The drum itself is made with with a maple wood frame and a carved basswood extension covered by elk rawhide. Dallin then painted…
