When I see a pile of cardboard boxes, my first thought is usually about whether my cats would like to play with them. I know cardboard has functions beyond holding stuff and beyond serving as a bed for my choosy felines, but I’m not always patient or skilled enough to see beyond the surface. But artist Tom Richner? He has vision. When it came time for him to empty out cardboard boxes in his basement, he decided to repurpose the material rather than stacking it by the recycling bin and created a detailed replica of the Millennium Falcon. I love carrying a little bit of Star Wars fun with me everywhere I go. If I can incorporate my fandom into a practical item, so much the better! So it’s a short jump to get the idea to make Star Wars bags to tote around all of my daily essentials. This is the kind of project I love, because you can do almost anything you like, design-wise. While all of the bags below are purses, you can easily use the same applique technique on messenger bags, backpacks, etc. Here’s how I made mine: The pattern I chose for my first bag — Swoon’s free Ramona pattern — has optional stripe…

Christopher Lee ( Count Dooku ) Sir Christopher Lee died last Sunday, June 7, at the age of 93. While in Star Wars we know him for his film role as Count Dooku/Darth Tyranus (spoiler) and close friendship with Peter Cushing, it’s fair to say that Lee lived a quite a full life. He will be greatly missed. Behind the scenes photo of Dracula AD 1972 is from the from UK Peter Cushing Appreciation Society, which also recently posted this a few months ago. Still sharp!

Looks like SlashFilm was right, Vanity Fair has continued the tradition of front-page Star Wars by putting a lovely new picture of TFA on its June 2015 issue — and plenty more. An article explaining Adam Driver’s and Lupita Nyong’o’s characters is here, and a much longer article detailing all sorts of crazy — both news and history of Star Wars, Lucasfilm, J.J. Abrams, etc. — is right here. Both articles contain both pictures and video (and a little strong language, if that bothers you)! I know, this picture has been all over the Internet for a month. My favorite:…

First, watch the trailer on the official YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/ngElkyQ6Rhs Embedded here: Next, read this excellent synopsis on io9 by James Whitbrook. A couple things are cleared up: the desert planet is not Luke’s homeworld of Tatooine, but a newly introduced place called Jakku. Finn (John Boyega) is indeed a…

Before I get into the (not so new anymore) news, I want to address my fellow EU/Legends fans: I’m a bit sad about certain parts of my beloved Expanded Universe going from canon to “Legends” and having a completely new storyline written, yes, but I still think it makes a weird sort of sense. I hope people like me may find some comfort in what Han Solo said to Z. Ghent in Heir to the Empire: “Just remember that whatever you’ve heard has been hearsay. And that hearsay stories grow an extra leg every time they’re told.” Heir to the Empire has become one…

    13 May 2015 | 5:00 am

The average computer screen resolution has come along way in the past decade, so it was time to go back to the original photos and update that popular article with higher-resolution pictures... A significant part of the impact of the Star Wars movies stems from a deliberate attention to detail. This is reflected in the appearance of props, costumes, sets and locations. A diverse multitude of planets are represented across the six…

NOTE: For some reason, I seem to have skipped reposting this review when I was posting last night. Must have been more tired than I thought. (Originally posted on Amazon 8/18/2003) The climactic novel of Kevin J. Anderson’s Jedi Academy Trilogy is probably the best of the series, but in the end it is something of a disappointment. The book picks up where Dark Apprentice leaves off, namely with yet another super weapon on the loose, this time in the hands of a would-be Jedi with revenge on his mind, while Luke lays in a helpless trance on Yavin 4. Meanwhile, a plot is in motion to kidnap…
