    28 Aug 2014 | 5:07 pm
Disney Parks’ Star Tours got a facelift three years ago and became Star Tours – The Adventures Continue. The Star Wars-themed ride first opened at Disneyland in 1987 and Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando in 1989. The new version of the attraction features familiar features like the StarSpeeder, but the queue and experience got an upgrade and became more powerful than you can possibly… You get the drift. When it came time to gather material that would be used in the queue, Disney put a request in with the 501st Legion’s Southern California Garrison and asked…

This summer featured the release of Ian Doescher’s William Shakespeare’s The Jedi Doth Return, the finale of Doescher’s masterful re-working of the Star Wars saga into Shakespearean language. Once again, Doescher merges the storytelling brilliance of George Lucas and William Shakespeare to add another dimension to this saga that has become sacrosanct to so many. This series has brought many fans of Shakespeare to Star Wars and vice-versa, which is a testament to the framework that both of these storytellers exhibit through their respective crafts. Shakespeare used many motifs that are…

Yes! One of my favorite models of starship ever makes an appearance in this new video about Force for Change, the charity campaign for UNICEF. Yes, it looks like a Z-95 that I remember from the old video games (and other parts of the Expanded Universe), but as Variety showed (in a good overview) through a link to an official tweet, it’s an “Episode VII X-wing.” It does look a bit unusual; there is one engine on each side instead of two, and the wings seem to fold differently. Just another example of change being inevitable, but it still has the classic trilogy feel to it,…

The Official Site has announced the addition of American stage and screen actress Crystal Clarke and British actor and freerunner/traceur Pip Andersen to Episode VII. Commentary on other news articles on this subject expressed worries that the cast was getting too big, but I think it’s likely that actors like these two will only have brief appearances, hopefully showing their talent and athleticism to the fullest (I can easily imagine some battle scene where we might see Andersen parkouring around in the background, for example). In any case I’m happy to see the tradition of…

My first article of the month arrives over at The Metro as I take a look at the recent Star Wars Rebels 3 minute episodes and discuss just why these characters will be household names in a very short window of time. Don’t be fooled into thinking that Episode 7 is the only thing happening in the Star Wars galaxy right now. On the contrary, while J.J. Abrams, the cast and crew, Lucasfilm and Disney focus their efforts on the next cinematic installment, a whole new chapter of the Star Wars story is about to explode onto small screens across the planet – Star Wars Rebels. Actor Miltos Yerolemou, best known for his role in the first series of fantasy drama Game of Thrones, has joined the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. He played expert and athletic swordsman Syrio Forel in Thrones and has taken on several other parts which involve sword fighting during his career. His extensive experience will inevitably lead to speculation that he may use a lightsabre in the film. However, his character in Star Wars is not thought to be a major…

  • Hot Wheels Star Wars Vehicles at SDCC 2014

    8 Aug 2014 | 5:00 am
This year's Comic-Con International: San Diego saw a lot of buzz around Hot Wheels's new range of Star Wars-inspired cars. Sadly, its upcoming line of miniature Star Wars vehicles - one of the releases I was most excited about at SDCC - received far less coverage. The internet is a wonderful place however, and thanks to the fine folks at GalacticHunter.com we're now able to get our first look at this exciting new line (gallery link). The vehicles aren't set to ship until Spring 2015, so the range on display at SDCC was understandably limited. Among those vehicles featured were a handful of…
  • A New Hope for Star Wars Vehicle Collectors

    6 Jul 2014 | 5:00 am
Last month, we received word that Hot Wheels and Star Wars would soon be joining forces to release an entirely new range of vehicles. One line will include themed "character cars" (the first of which - Darth Vader - can be seen here). The second - and perhaps more interesting - line, will contain a series of distinct miniature ships with display stands. As far as I'm concerned, this is fantastic news. While the characters of Star Wars are incredibly important, the vehicles of the saga have a special place in the hearts of fans and collectors alike. In the mid- to late-90s there were…

If you're a fan of the saga, you've no doubt been asked the same question many times before: "Why do you like Star Wars so much?" It's a hard question, and it's harder still to give an answer that does justice to the deep and abiding love that many of us have for the franchise. Sure, Star Wars contains some of the most well-made films in cinema history. There's a fantastic plot, relatable characters, spectacular effects, and a magical quality that catches the imaginations of young and old alike. But for me, it's always been about more than the films. The most ambitious thing that…
